The next Android Wear update brings interactive watch faces, watch to watch messaging and more

The Android Wear platform has been around for over a year now, and although it has come a long way since launching with the LG G Watch and Moto 360, we are looking forward to seeing it evolve even more. The next Android Wear update was originally scheduled to be released on July 28th, but this has now been postponed to an unspecified date in August. This doesn’t mean that we have to wait to find out about some of the alleged new features though.
Thanks to the information provided to Phandroid, we are able to see that the next Android Wear update will include the ability to tap the watch display once to change aesthetics, launch activities, inline expansion and more. While there’s already third-party watch faces that offer the tap once gesture, it’s a feature that has to be hacked in by the developer, which often leads to system issues. Below are some examples of what a single tap can do, with the first example showing how the user could cycle through a list of options, i.e. different watch faces.
Finally, the single tap could be used to open a new app, which would then slide in from the right of the display. It’s said that Google has informed Android Wear developers of the new features so that they can update their apps accordingly when the update is released. If Google hasn’t been in touch, you shouldn’t have to wait too long to get access to the new API.
Together is a new feature that gives the ability for Android Wear users to send messages, emoji’s, stickers and doodles to other Android Wear users, as seen mentioned in the strings of code below:
At present, it isn’t known whether the Together function will be launched as a system app or limited to just the one watch face. If it was indeed limited in use to the one watch face, it wouldn’t be very useful at all. It should be said that the information given to Phandroid wasn’t up to date, which means it may well have just been the starting point.
Finally, if you’re rocking an LG G Watch R, you’ve probably been waiting patiently for its WiFi capability to be activated, as promised by LG. This next Android Wear update appears to be the one you’ve been waiting for, now its just a matter of time until the update is released.

Misfit Vapor smartwatch brings heart rate monitoring, built-in GPS and waterproofing

Misfit a annoncé vapeur, son premier smartwatch écran tactile, au CES 2017. Le portable est suivi de la condition physique et le sommeil standard le plus encore avancé, offrant de l'entreprise, avec optique surveillance de la fréquence cardiaque, GPS intégré et la fonctionnalité de musique autonome.
Comme avec d'autres trackers Misfit comme le Ray, la Vapor mesurera les mesures prises, les calories brûlées, la distance parcourue et indiquent la lumière ou un sommeil réparateur, la synchronisation de toutes les données avec l'application Misfit. Lorsque la vapeur diffère est-il offrira également des données d'altitude et il est le seul dispositif de Misfit à disposer d'un moniteur de fréquence cardiaque.
Les utilisateurs GPS intégré et la fonctionnalité de la musique autonome signifie aussi seront en mesure de suivre une course, par exemple, et écouter de la musique sans la nécessité de mettre leur téléphone avec eux.
Le smartwatch Vapor est résistant à l'eau jusqu'à 50 mètres et dispose d'un boîtier en acier inoxydable 44mm qui vient en Jet Black ou Rose d'or options de couleur avec bracelets interchangeables. Il y a un écran AMOLED rond 1,39 pouces, entouré par une lunette tactile qui permet aux utilisateurs de parcourir watchfaces, applications et répondre aux notifications sans interférer avec le contenu sur l'écran principal. 
Le processeur Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 exécute l'émission de vapeur, accompagné de 4 Go de mémoire pour stocker de la musique, la connectivité Bluetooth et Wi-Fi. Misfit dit le Vapor a une durée de vie de la batterie de deux jours, qui est chargé par l'intermédiaire d'un berceau de charge magnétique comme beaucoup de smartwatches fossiles.
Le smartwatch Misfit Vapor sera disponible "plus tard cette année" pour 199 $, mais aucune date précise n'a été détaillée.

Panerai Regatta Winner Awarded Timepiece

On April 14, one of the giants of the modern watch industry, Ulysse Nardin’s Rolf Schnyder, passed away unexpectedly. Schnyder transformed a small company known for marine chronometers into an innovative manufacturer producing groundbreaking timepieces. Following Schnyder’s passing, vice-president Patrik Hoffmann was appointed CEO. We go inside Schnyder’s last days, we look at the transition, and we trace the rise of Ulysse Nardin’s new captain.
Patrik Hoffmann was born and raised in Basel, Switzerland, a city long associated with the watch industry. Originally trained as a CPA, he went to work for Oris as an accountant. While there, he was advised that to climb the executive ladder, he should study marketing. Hoffmann moved to Michigan to earn an MBA, then he returned to Oris where he joined the marketing team.

In the mid-90s, Hoffmann moved his family to Malaysia. From his base in Kuala Lumpur, he traveled widely in Asia. As it turned out, Oris and Ulysse Nardin shared a local watch distributor, and by way of further coincidence, UN’s owner and CEO Rolf Schnyder lived only a half mile from Hoffmann.
Schnyder was known for always seeking information that might help him in business. He played golf in the mornings, then stopped by Hoffmann’s office in the afternoons to chat. “There is a funny story about how I came to be employed by Rolf”, Hoffmann related. At a collector event, Schnyder asked Hoffmann “When are you going to come to work for me?” Hoffmann replied “I will never work for you.” Schnyder asked why, and Hoffmann said “Your factory is in Le Locle – in the middle of nowhere. Everybody there speaks French. I cannot work for you.”
The next day Hoffmann was shopping with his wife when Schnyder called him on his cell phone and said “Patrik, the job I would offer you would be to start our own U.S. operation in Florida. Would you be interested?” Hoffmann responded “That sounds tempting. That I could imagine.”
A few minutes later, Hoffmann and his wife were in the car when her cell phone rang. It was Schnyder, and he did not know that she was sitting right next to her husband. Schnyder told her “I just spoke with Patrik. He said he would like to work for me in Florida. Would you like to move to Florida?” She replied “I can imagine living in Florida.” Then Schnyder called Hoffmann back and said “I just spoke to your wife. She wants to move to Florida. Come see me over the weekend.” That was in August, 1999.
In short order, Hoffmann and his family moved to Florida. Under Hoffmann’s guidance, the U.S. market took off, becoming Ulysse Nardin’s largest. With his finance and marketing background, a lifetime of experience, and a down-to-earth style that clicked with collectors and retailers, Hoffmann became a member of Schnyder’s inner circle of five executives who worked closely with their leader managing the company.
Though he listened to his closest managers, Schnyder was clearly in charge. “He might ask for thoughts if he was unsure,” Hoffmann related, “but he would not ask too many people. He would not have a meeting and bring a lot of people together. He would just decide.”

Around 2005, Schnyder began pushing Hoffmann to move to Switzerland, but Hoffmann was not eager to go. “There were a couple of reasons. I like it in the U.S. very much, and over there Rolf was still very much in charge. In the U.S. I had more freedom, and I could develop and prove what was possible.”

Then, about three years ago, Hoffmann decided to “give in half-way.” He agreed to travel back and forth between the U.S. and Ulysse Nardin’s Swiss offices, spending about 40% of his time in Switzerland and the rest in the States. During this period, Hoffmann headed up global marketing and sales. “Of course with Rolf you were always a little involved with everything. He would keep you in the loop. And it was a good move, because I was already half-way there.”

No one foresaw Schnyder’s departure. To those he met with at Baselworld this year, Schnyder appeared to be in good health. In fact, he began feeling ill about five days before the Fair started. Yet when the show ended on March 31, no one inside Ulysse Nardin thought there was a serious problem, and everyone went about their business as usual.
Then on April 10, Schnyder called Hoffmann at home, early in the morning. “He told me he had to go to the hospital, and that I should do what I have to do, and not wait for him. He said he knew there were some decisions that should be discussed, but he said ‘Do not wait. I will call you when I am out and better.’”
Four days later, Schnyder died in Kuala Lampur at age 76, leaving behind his wife Chai and three children. The cause was identified as acute pancreatitis.
On April 27 Chai Schnyder, who holds a Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering degree from Queen’s University in Belfast, was appointed president of the Ulysse Nardin board of directors, and Hoffmann was named CEO. Chai and her children now own the majority of shares in the company. Hoffmann says “It is the position of the shareholders to keep UN independent. Chai came to address the people two weeks after Rolf died. She spoke to the entire management team and she assured us that this is the plan. And the management and the employees all plan as such – we will remain independent.”
Hoffmann currently spends 60% of his time in Switzerland and 40% in the U.S., but in the future he sees himself spending closer to 80% of his time in Switzerland.
For Hoffmann, looking forward involves looking back. “Rolf was a pioneer. He had guts. He did some things that big groups might not consider. We did Silicium and DIAMonSIL ten years ago. That was a combination of intuition and guts. We hope we can continue that.”

Between them, Schnyder’s inner-circle managers have 75 years of experience working with the former leader. “What Rolf was able to do is trickle down his life philosophy. And I am not just talking business now” Hoffmann related. “We are one of the few companies that manages to sell some of the most expensive watches, but we still have our feet on the ground. Rolf was never crazy about staying at the best hotels or driving the best cars, and I think that is part of the new management, and I hope I will be able to keep that going. We meet great people and wealthy people all over the world, but we are still humble.”
In these early days of the post-Schnyder era, Hoffman admits “We do still catch ourselves asking ‘What would Rolf do?’ For now, there are still issues where we know what Rolf wanted, because we spoke with him. The advantage is that it is a successful company. He planted trees, even though he knew he would not live to see those trees grow. That’s the kind of person he was. We do not have to make changes. There will be an evolution, but we don’t have to turn anything around. That’s a huge advantage.”

But the new order is beginning to assert itself, as seen in this anecdote Hoffmann related about a recent meeting. “There is one existing movement where we have been planning something new, and I said ‘An evolution from what we have is not enough. We have to add one more feature.’ Some of the others said no, but I said ‘We have to have this feature.’ They said ‘OK, let’s call Ludwig [Oechslin]’ because it was a product Ludwig was involved in. So Ludwig came. He had something new with him. Then we told him that on this other movement, we have an idea for a new feature, and I saw the flicker in his eyes, and I knew. I think he will be able to put that feature in.”

Monochrome Lundi: Le Nouveau Bleu Cobalt Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk

Le Sea Hawk est une version moderne d'un classique Girard-Perregaux montre de sport, et nous devons l'admettre, il est une assez bonne. Sur Monochrome-watches.com , nous vous présentions  le nouveau Sea Hawk , avant son lancement à Baselworld 2013, ainsi que son frère de chronographe, le Chrono Hawk. Pour 2014, cette montre de plongée chunky a été mis à jour avec un nouveau jeu de couleurs - un cadran bleu cobalt avec des accents d'orange - qui ressemble vraiment super pour l' été.
Le Sea Hawk est une montre emblématique de Girard-Perregaux, et la version 2013 a maintenu les caractéristiques visuelles qui en ont fait distinctes: bracelet en caoutchouc, couronne à 4 heures, et la mise en page très spécifique du cadran. Le, robuste, cas assez volumineux angulaire est également partie de l'appel, avec son anneau en caoutchouc octogonale sous la lunette .

La principale mise à jour dans la version de cette année de la Sea Hawk est la nouvelle couleur utilisée pour le cadran et la lunette. arborant toujours sa texture en nid d'abeille, le cadran est maintenant présenté dans un bleu cobalt vif qui contraste bien avec les accents d'orange des mains. La lunette tournante unidirectionnelle, en acier avec caoutchouc injecté, comprend désormais deux zones colorées, en noir et orange, pour assurer une lecture parfaite des temps de plongée. Le bracelet en caoutchouc, avec boucle déployante, est maintenant dans une couleur bleu cobalt correspondant. La montre est également disponible sur bracelet en acier.

Mis à part ces changements esthétiques, le Sea Hawk Girard-Perregaux est toujours le même très attrayant montre de sport, en raison à la fois sa capacité de plongée et son niveau de finition. Le boîtier en acier inoxydable de 44 mm mérite une certaine attention, car la finition sur il est vraiment étonnant pour une montre de sport. Toutes les facettes - et il y a beaucoup d'entre eux - dispose d' une finition brossée dans une direction spécifique. Croyez - nous, ce n'est pas une montre facile à fabriquer. Le Sea Hawk est garanti d'être résistant à l' eau à 1.000 mètres et dispose d' une soupape à hélium sur le côté gauche du boîtier.
Ce sentiment haut de gamme étend également à l'intérieur de la montre, qui dispose de la maison- automatique Calibre GP3300. Il a l' heure, minute, seconde, et les fonctions de date, ainsi qu'un indicateur de réserve de marche de 46 heures. Le mouvement bat à une fréquence de 28'800 vph, ou 4 Hz. Même si vous ne pouvez pas le voir, le mouvement est, comme toujours le cas avec GP, très bien fini.

Sur le poignet, le faucon de la mer est une montre très masculine et robuste. La taille de 44 mm, ainsi que le poids et l' épaisseur, peuvent être ressentis, mais la forme du boîtier permet d'équilibrer sur le poignet, même un petit poignet. Le nouveau schéma de couleurs fonctionne vraiment bien, même si ce n'est pas le thème le plus "discrète" nous avons vu. (Si vous aimez un "silencieux" montre de plongée, optez pour la nouvelle Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 ). Le Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk est l' un des choix funkier plongée montre là - bas, et il est l' un des très rares haut de gamme montres qui sont parfaits pour l' été, les week - ends et les vacances - ou tout simplement pour les amateurs de montres qui veulent être un peu différent.
Le Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk à Cobalt bleu sera disponible juste avant l'été, pour 10.100 $ sur bracelet en caoutchouc et 11,850 $ sur le bracelet en acier.
